Dear Guest, Due to personal commitments the time I used to dedicate to maintain this blog has been suspended, although I keep very little contact with the BPAs, they are still in the same places and waiting your kind support. Please remember them. Thankyou Kindly, JEG.

Welcome to Burmese Prisoners Abroad (BPA)

This blog has been created with the purpose to find pen pals to Burmese prisoners doing time in Thailand.

My mission was to find pen pals in Burmese as most of these prisoners do not have fluent English. They speak English as the only medium to communicate with other foreign prisoners, but they lack writing skills, the courageous ones write basic English which carries their clear message. The time already spent in prison and their shyness makes them hungry for that tiny contact we foreigners can gift them with... a one page letter, maybe 2 lines on a card to make them feel they still belong to this world. Pen pals either in English or Burmese would be appreciated.

BPAs as I call them, born in Burma, come from different regions of the country, most of them from rural backgrounds, humble upbringing, where "learning" is still a luxury to rural people. The junta makes no fuzz about helping these people, quite the opposite, these people are recruited as porters or opium growers and if lucky they manage to survive in the army.

To escape from inhumanities and corruption these people trusted their own country people finding themselves in a situation that have stolen their identity and personal freedom.

Their stories are the same, found at the wrong place, with the wrong company, at the wrong time. Now, there are no relatives, no Embassy support, no friends.

It is in these situations where inmates need the international community to bring them some hope, some motivation to keep going.

Please feel free to check their profiles if you are interested in writing a short hello to a Burmese Prisoner in Thailand Prisons.

Compassion goes a long way
A letter to a prisoner goes a long way
Your time is precious so is your compassionate gift to an inmate
